As the Summer Heat Grows Even Hotter, We Look to Our AC to Help Us Stay Cool and Escape the Heat…

We put our air conditioners to the test here in Buffalo, New York, and as the summer heat grows even hotter, we look to our AC to help us stay cool and escape the heat. Nothing is worse than having your AC running, but you can’t feel cold air coming from the vents. This could signal an issue with air intake, the condenser, or refrigerant. We are going to review possible reasons as to why your AC is blowing warm air.

Why Your AC Is Blowing Warm Air

After months of your Buffalo air conditioning system working on overdrive, having it start to blow warm air is not ideal. With regular air conditioning maintenance, you can typically prevent an interruption in your cooling system’s function. If your air conditioner is blowing air that is hotter than normal, it doesn’t necessarily mean full system failure, in fact, usually there is a simple explanation. What are some reasons why your AC is blowing warm air?

Thermostat Setting: When your AC is blowing warm air, perhaps the easiest reason to diagnose and fix, is your thermostat setting. Someone in your Buffalo home may have bumped the thermostat and accidentally changed the setting to “heat”. If your AC is blowing warm air, the first thing you should check is your thermostat. Make sure that that it is set on “cool” and the temperature setting is in your desirable range.

Condenser Issues: An air conditioning condenser that is dirty or with electrical issues can be the cause of your AC blowing warm air. Your AC condenser is the outdoor portion of your air conditioner that creates the cool air, for your air conditioning, by working as a heat exchanger. Go outside and inspect your AC condenser for dirt, leaves, bird nests, tall grass or other debris. If you see an obstruction, remove it. If the issue is with the condenser, but you can’t see a blockage, you should call a local air conditioning repair team to assist you.

Air Filter Problems: Air filters live up to their name; they filter your air. When doing this, they keep dust, pollen and other particles out of your HVAC system, in turn, saving your system from damage; however, that collection of materials can build up in the filter. Having a soiled air filter can cause restricted airflow with your AC and can cause your system to blow warm air. If your air conditioning is producing heated air, check your filter and change your air filter, if needed.

Refrigerant Leak: If your air ducts have a leak and are letting refrigerant escape, that could cause your AC to blow warm air. Refrigerant line joints and connections can come loose, causing a leak in the refrigerant. Because ductwork is usually hidden in walls, floors, ceilings, etc., this could be a larger issue and you should contact a local air conditioning professional to help you detect and fix the problem.
